Using the H&A Viewer
Typical desktop H&A Scope
Table-up View (Arrows)
Diamond’s table must be totally parallel to the viewer lens in order to view the eight arrows properly. A slight deviation can make the arrows look out of alignment.
Table up position to view Arrows pattern in viewer
The viewer must be centered over the center of the diamond.
To see all eight arrows in perfect alignment, (a must for H&A stones) it may be necessary to move one’s head
slightly
before all eight arrows are aligned simultaneously and in focus (arrow head lined up on shaft of arrow). This is because the viewer’s eye must be precisely over the center of viewer opening.
Eight pairs of small white triangular patterns (crab claws)
may
be visible, parallel to each other, in the star facet between each arrowhead. This is desirable and visible in the best examples of Hearts and Arrows Ideal Cuts.
Note: A small perfect octagon shape colored area (table reflection) will be visible in the center of the diamond,
if
it is properly seated in the hole in the center of the base.
Table-down View (Hearts)
Diamond must be centered directly over the exact center point of the viewer’s base and the viewer’s opening
Table down position to view Hearts pattern in viewer
must be centered exactly over the culet of the diamond, in order to see the hearts correctly.
When the viewer is centered directly over the diamond’s culet, it still may be necessary to move one’s head back and forth (slightly) to see all eight hearts “light-up” simultaneously and reveal the chevrons or
V’s
under the point of each heart. These must all appear the same and show the same amount of space between each heart’s bottom point.
Because the viewer uses a 3x power lens,
some inclusions may show up or even reflect in the heart images
. This is not an issue, as the inclusions have already been addressed in the diamond’s clarity grade.
